Japanese Craft Spirits Month Kicks Off Feb. 1 in L.A.

Saturday, February 1 marks the beginning of Japanese Craft Spirits Month in Los Angeles, kicking off a 29-day effort to boost awareness for shochu and Awamori at more than 100 participating bars and restaurants throughout the greater L.A. area.

Among the events is “What the Heck is Shochu?” at Harajuku Tap Room in Culver City, California, on February 4. The venue is offering a flights of three distinct shochus with a house-made pickleback chaser, as well as a range of shochu-based cocktails. Shochu experts will be on hand to talk about the flight and answer any shochu-related questions.

In addition to promoting consumer awareness, the organizers, Japan Product Promotion, hopes to introduce the relatively unknown Japanese spirits to bartenders, mixologists and restaurants in L.A as new ingredients in American market.
