On May 17, the U.S. and EU issued a joint statement on steel and aluminum announcing the start of discussions to address global steel and aluminum excess capacity and the EU’s agreement to temporarily suspend the doubling of its tariffs on American Whiskey from 25% to 50% and other U.S. goods on June 1, 2021.
This week, the European Commission published an implementing regulation in the EU Official Journal suspending the doubling of its tariff on American Whiskey and other U.S. goods for six months until November 30, 2021. Accordingly, the EU’s 25% tariff on American whiskey will remain in effect until the U.S. and EU agree to suspend or remove the tariff before it automatically escalates to 50% on November 30, 2021.
