Copperworks Introduces Kentucky Flood and Hurricane Ian Relief Benefit Release

Seattle-based Copperworks Distilling Co. is proud to introduce its latest special benefit release, Copperworks American Single Malt Whiskey, Kentucky Flood and Hurricane Ian Relief.

In late July 2022, catastrophic flooding hit eastern Kentucky, claiming dozens of lives and causing extensive damage. Several Copperworks team members, including co-founder and president, Jason Parker, and head distiller, Thomas Paessler, hail from the Bluegrass State.

“Without question, our team agreed that another very important whiskey release was in order,” said Parker. “Last December, following the devasting tornadoes in Western Kentucky, we created a special benefit release. Inspired by that relief effort and with the groundwork already laid, we began preparing a new American Single Malt Whiskey, proceeds from which would be donated to support flood relief efforts in Kentucky.”

“As we were preparing to bottle and announce our flood benefit release, Hurricane Ian swept through Florida and several other Southern states,” said Copperworks Distilling Co. co-owner and vice president Jeff Kanof. “We decided immediately to extend the release to support both regions impacted by these natural disasters.”

Copperworks Kentucky Flood Relief American Single Malt Whiskey and Copperworks Hurricane Ian Relief American Single Malt Whiskey are the same whiskey for both bottles.

For every bottle sold, $40 will be donated to relief efforts.

Tasting Notes

Opens with aromas of orange zest, sweet tea, apple pie, and cereal. Apple pie continues as a dominant flavor, along with peach and sponge cake. This delightful combination finishes with a little almond paste, raisin, and even more peach notes, making this a very delicious southern-flavor-focused whiskey.

Production Notes

This special benefit release was crafted from two ex-bourbon casks and one new American oak cask. One of the ex-bourbon casks was made from pale malt and matured for over five and half years, while the other was crafted from a rare single varietal malted barley called “Alba” and matured for six and half years. The new oak cask was made from pale malt and matured for nearly four years.
