Durham, North Carolina-based Durham Distillery achieved top honors this month for Conniption Gin in the World Gin Awards, winning the title of “Best in the United States” in three categories.
CONNIPTION Navy Strength earned its sixth consecutive win as “Best in the U.S.” in the Navy Strength Gin and a gold medal. The distillery’s innovative CONNIPTION Kinship emerged as the “Best in the U.S.” and a gold medal in the Color-Changing Gin category and CONNIPTION Barrel-Aged Gin was recognized as the “Best in the U.S.” and a gold medal in the Barrel-Aged Gin category. In a strong showing across the board, CONNIPTION American Dry also earned a Silver medal in the Contemporary Style Gin category.
Melissa Katrincic, president and CEO of Durham Distillery, expressed immense pride in the achievement. “These awards are a testament to our commitment to quality and innovation in gin distillation further solidifying Conniption as America’s most highly-decorated gin. Being recognized at such a critical point in our national expansion, including our entry into new markets like Boston and Chicago, is incredibly rewarding. Moreover, the introduction of our Conniption Gin cocktail bar and restaurant — Conniption Cocktails & Cuisine — at RDU Airport later this year, marks a new chapter in bringing our award-winning gins to a wider audience.”
The World Gin Awards, held in London, sets the benchmark for international excellence in gin production, with over 900 entries from 47 countries in this year’s competition. The recognition of CONNIPTION Gins in such a diverse and competitive field is a significant accomplishment, judged by an esteemed panel that includes international journalists, specialist drinks retailers, and industry experts, among whom Katrincic herself served in non-competitive categories.
The journey doesn’t end here for CONNIPTION Kinship, CONNIPTION Navy Strength, and CONNIPTION Barrel-Aged. These exceptional gins have now advanced to compete for the title of “Best in the World” in their respective categories. The global winners, along with the coveted “World’s Best Gin” accolade, will be revealed at the upcoming Gin Magazine Awards Dinner in London on Feb. 22 with Melissa and Lee Katrincic in attendance.
