Baltimore-based Old Line Spirits is releasing 51 Rye Whiskey as its contribution to Maryland’s rich rye whiskey heritage. Using the same grains as Monument City Brewing Co.’s 51 Rye IPA, this rare and limited high malt rye whiskey is bottled at 102 proof and will be available beginning April 13 at the distillery and through its e-commerce platform. “Bringing Monument City’s 51 Rye grains into our whiskey world has been an exciting project.” said co-founder Arch Watkins. “The result is a high malt rye that truly encapsulates what Old Line is all about: boldness, quality and a deep appreciation for Maryland’s distilling history. I can’t wait for everyone to taste the whiskey.”
Bottled as a straight rye whiskey, 51 Rye Whiskey presents gentle notes of rye, balanced with tasting notes of cinnamon, warm sugar cookies, faint ripe plum, dark chocolate and light, dry tobacco. “This whiskey is a step in a new direction for Old Line,” said co-founder Mark McLaughlin. “Working with Monument City Brewing Co. allowed us to blend tradition with creativity, resulting in a whiskey that is both unique and respectful of Maryland’s rye heritage. Our focus is still on American single malts but expect to see this wonderful rye whiskey again in the future!”
The release is offered at a suggested retail price of $39.99 (750mL) and will be available at the distillery, select Maryland retailers beginning April 13, and through e-commerce in over 40 states. 51 Rye Whiskey is Released in conjunction with Old Line Spirits’ annual Spring Fling.
