Copperworks Announces Washington Peated Single Cask No. 497

Seattle-based Copperworks Distilling Co. has unveiled a single cask release of Copperworks Washington Peated American Single Malt Whiskey Single Cask No. 497.

Brewed and distilled from 100% Fritz variety barley grown in Washington’s Skagit Valley and smoked during the malting process with Washington-sourced peat, Single Cask No. 497 was matured for 4 years and 3 months in new American oak casks and bottled at cask strength, 59.7% ABV.

“When we bottled our first batch of Peatsmith American Single Malt Whiskey, we set aside Single Cask No. 497 to continue maturing,” said Copperworks president and co-founder Jason Parker. “After nearly a year of maturation, this rare release brings together the smoky, earthy peat and rich, smooth malt profile. It’s bold, complex, and truly one of a kind.”

Tasting Notes:

The nose opens with caramelized sugar, honey, and cake batter, layered with red cedar, moss, and sunbaked driftwood. Smoky notes of charred wood and brisket bark intertwine with roasted almonds, black cherry, dark chocolate, and smoked cinnamon. On the palate, salted caramel and cinnamon-sugar graham cracker lead into beach bonfire smoke and mesquite-smoked meats, balanced by raisin, fruit leather, and dry Curaçao’s bittersweet orange. A touch of smoked salt and fennel adds depth, rounded by a drizzle of hot honey. The finish lingers with salted caramel, brown sugar, and molasses, accented by sweet cinnamon, ginger snap, and a cooling hint of eucalyptus.
