Joshua Tree Distilling Co. Founder Announces Campaign for Congress

Paul Chakalian, a small business owner and founder of Joshua Tree Distilling Co., announced his campaign to unseat Congressman Jay Obernolte in California’s 23rd Congressional District. Located in the Morongo Basin, Chakalian comes from a family of small business owners with roots in this region for nearly two decades. Paul built a craft distillery from the ground up with a mission to support his community, and brings a people-first perspective to solving problems and helping others.

Commenting on his decision to run for Congress, Chakalian released the following statement:

“I’m a small business owner in Yucca Valley with two kids under two. Every day, I see the impact of rising costs for housing, groceries, and childcare for me and my neighbors. I know how hard it is to get ahead: navigating high prices, few options, and a government that makes things harder not easier. Instead of supporting small businesses and working families in our district, Jay Obernolte has consistently voted to protect big corporations that take advantage of hard working Americans — while pushingfor more tax cuts for millionaires like himself.

“My community can’t afford more Jay Obernolte. I’m running for Congress because we deserve better. I’ll work with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents to crack down on corporate greed, address our cost of living crisis, and provide small and innovative businesses with more opportunities to succeed. It’s time we had a representative who puts people first, and delivers  balanced and practical solutions for working families across our district.”
