New York State Distillers Guild Member Vanessa Braxton Named Woman of Distinction

The New York State Distillers Guild announced that member Vanessa Braxton was named a 2026 Woman of Distinction by unanimous proclamation of the New York Senate. Following the legislative action Ms. Braxton was honored in a public celebration at the State Capitol in Albany.

Annually since 1998, the State Senate pauses its deliberations to recognize and honor “extraordinary women and their contributions” to their community and state. All honorees are noted for their professional achievements, enduring impact, and personal leadership.

Ms. Braxton is the first African American woman Master Distiller and Master Blender in the United States as founder of Gravesande Braxton Distillers and serves as CEO and President of Black Momma Vodka & Brands. An accomplished entrepreneur and established business leader in the engineering and construction sectors, Ms. Braxton is a former Board member of the New York Metropolitan Transit Authority and has worked with United States embassies across the globe.

Ms. Braxton is the sole owner of her distillery, manufacturing facility, and a 15-acre grow house.

“It is an honor to receive such a prestigious award from Senator Martinez,” said Ms. Braxton.

Ms. Braxton was nominated for this recognition by NYS Senator Monica R. Martinez (D, WF – Suffolk).

“Great spirits are carefully crafted, and so too are great leaders. Vanessa Braxton’s remarkable lifetime of achievements reflects a powerful blend of intelligence, determination, and entrepreneurial vision that has made her a trailblazer in multiple fields. I join all New Yorkers in raising a glass to Vanessa, and her well-deserved recognition as a Woman of Distinction,” said Senator Martinez.

“Anyone who knows Vanessa understands the determination and leadership that have defined her career,” said Brian Facquet, President of the New York State Distillers Guild and owner of Do Good Spirits. “She has made a lasting impact on New York’s craft spirits industry and has opened doors for others through her example. This recognition is well deserved.”

“We appreciate Senator Martinez as a leader who knows a leader when she sees one.  Senator Martinez shining a light on Vanessa’s groundbreaking work brings deserved attention to an incredibly accomplished distiller, businesswoman, engineer, public servant, and community-minded citizen,” said Teresa Casey, Executive Director of the New York State Distillers Guild.
