Copperworks Distilling Co.’s soon-to-be-released summer Whiskey Club offering was crafted in collaboration with beloved local brand Urban Family Brewing.
The award-winning Seattle distillery will soon unveil Copperworks American Single Malt Urban Family Barley Wine Cask, available exclusively to Whiskey Club members. Memberships are still available.
A staple in the Seattle craft beer scene, Urban Family is known for its ever-changing lineup of fruited sour beers, IPAs, lagers, dark beers, and barleywine. Since 2011, they have been thoughtful explorers of complex yeast strains, interesting hop profiles, and fresh ingredients.
“As mutual fans of each other’s work, we naturally formed an ongoing partnership which has led to this exciting cask collaboration,” said Jason Parker, President and Co-Founder of Copperworks Distilling Co.
For this release, Urban Family matured their Treehouse in the City barleywine using a Copperworks cask which previously held American Single Malt Whiskey, then returned the cask to us. Copperworks took the cask, now rich with barleywine flavor, and filled it with three-and-a-half-year-old Copperworks signature 5 Malt whiskey. After ten months of additional maturation in the finishing cask, we bottled this flavorful whiskey at 50% ABV.

Barleywine Cask Cocktail Recipes
“Excited to see how Barleywine Cask American Single Malt Whiskey would taste in cocktails, we’ve been exploring its potential behind the scenes,” said said Jeff Kanof, Copperworks Vice President and Co-Owner. “We are sharing two cocktails that we think wonderfully showcase its flavor in exciting and refreshing ways.”
Both cocktails utilize Old Dames Bitters, a specialty product from Copperworks’ friends at Girl Meets Dirt. The bitters can be ordered as an add-on option.
