Seattle-based Copperworks Distilling Co. has released its latest special single cask offerings: Copperworks Spanish Brandy Cask Finished Gin and Copperworks American Single Malt Whiskey Single Cask No. 472.
Copperworks Spanish Brandy Cask Finished Gin
“This special cask finished gin has been a long time in the making,” said Copperworks Distilling Co. co-owner and president Jason Parker. “In 2019, Copperworks acquired brandy casks from Cadiz, Spain, and we filled one with gin. After over two years, the flavors from the cask were vibrant but needed more time to integrate. The spirit was then added to a cask previously used for Copperworks American Single Malt whiskey and was allowed to rest for an additional two years to achieve the perfect balance.”
This four-year-old gin can be enjoyed on its own like a fine whiskey or used to craft spirit-forward cocktails such as an Old Fashioned or Martinez, said Parker.
Tasting Notes
Vibrant red-orange in the glass, this gin is quite the sipper. Zucchini bread, lemon tart, spruce tip tea, and damp wood invite you to keep nosing the glass. Red cedar up front on the palate makes way to stewed apple, pink peppercorn, finger limes, and a hit of sweet cinnamon that rolls into the finish. Along with the lingering sweet cinnamon, this gin finishes with the sensation of liquid suede and flavors of a damp pine forest.

In addition, the award-winning distillery has released its latest single cask whiskey: Copperworks American Single Malt Whiskey Single Cask No. 472.
“Copperworks’ single cask whiskey releases have been flying off the shelves!” said Copperworks Distilling Co. vice president and co-owner, Jeff Kanof. ”Fortunately, we keep discovering exceptional casks at the distillery that meet our rigorous standards, and this is our latest release.”
The Single Cask No. 472 was distilled from Copperworks’ celebrated Five Malt Recipe, yet this release is a bit different than their most recent Five Malt release, according to Kanof.
“Unlike the re-filled cask used in the previous release, this one has been fully matured in charred new American oak for 3 years and 8 months, resulting in a rich and robust flavor profile.”
Tasting Notes
Vanilla cream-filled doughnut, citrus, and tropical fruit on top of deeper scents of leather and pipe tobacco on the nose. This whiskey has considerable heft across the palate, bittersweet with notes of dark chocolate, orange flambé, and dark brown sugar. Long and lingering, the finish continues the citrus thread with subtle florality and lingering dark chocolate bitterness.
