Copperworks Distilling Co. of Seattle has teamed up with Three Magnets Brewing Co. on the release of Copperworks American Single Malt Whiskey Release 24, finished in a cask that previously held Three Magnets Imperial Stout.
Three Magnets Brewing Co. finished a beer in some of Copperworks’ whiskey casks to create Copperworks Tompkins Imperial Stout. Copperworks took two barrels back and rested the whiskey (“finished” it) in them. The whiskey used Copperworks’ Five Malt recipe and was first matured for 29 months in charred, new American Oak barrels. It was then finished in the Three Magnets Imperial Stout casks for two months.
Tasting Notes: Release 24 offers aromas of citrus peel, chocolate truffle and ice tea, which prepare one for the dark fruit, cocoa and coffee nudge flavors. It finishes with lychee, exotic spices, coffee and chocolate tiramisu notes.
How it Looks: When you look at this whiskey, you’ll see it’s a bit hazy. The haze comes from the beer that was previously in the barrel. That delicious beer remnant on the barrel staves has given the whiskey a bit of a haze and because Copperworks does not filter its whiskey, it retained all the flavor.
