Milam & Greene Whiskey is releasing its annual grain-to-glass bourbon, Distillery Edition Batch 5, Five-Year-Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey, a Certified Texas Whiskey created in Blanco, Texas. Only 171 bottles of this extremely rare, limited-edition bourbon were produced. Milam & Greene Distillery Edition Batch 5, five-Year-Old Bourbon is available exclusively at the Milam & Greene Distillery tasting room in Blanco, Texas beginning June 22, 2024.
To celebrate the release, Milam & Greene is hosting a “Meet the Makers” bottle signing event at the distillery on June 22, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. hosted by founder, Marsha Milam, master distiller, Marlene Holmes, and director of distillery operations, Rikk Munroe, who will sign bottles. Attendees can spend the day sipping fine whiskey cocktails, listening to live music, and enjoying bites from a local food truck. A portion of the proceeds from each bottle sold will go directly to Panhandle Proud, a collective effort of Texas distilleries to support farmers and ranchers affected by the largest wildfire the Texas Panhandle has ever seen.
Distillery Edition Batch 5, Five-Year-Old Straight Bourbon Whiskey was pot-distilled in a 300-gallon copper still. It is made with a mash bill of 70 percent corn, 22 percent malted rye, and eight percent malted barley along with their proprietary yeast recipe which has remained consistent for each of the five batches. Batch 5, distilled on February 13, 2019, was aged in cask number 19-05 for five years, three months, and eight days in rickhouse one, row E, height two, depth four inside the warehouse. It was hand-bottled on May 24, 2024, at 59.8% ABV / 119.6 Proof.
“The Texas climate had a big influence on the flavors of this whiskey,” says Munroe. “It has been extremely hot, super cold, bone dry, and recently oppressively humid during the span of aging this fifth release of Distillery Edition. These weather conditions affect the flavor of whiskey aging in the barrel. This particular whiskey has been subject to some of the most extreme heat and cold that Texas can throw at it, resulting in a complex yet well-balanced easy sipping whiskey. Our proprietary mash bill featuring 22% malted rye matures particularly well in extreme climate just as we designed it. This is the oldest Distillery Edition release to date and some of our best whiskey yet. I am very excited for this release and the subsequent Distillery Editions in the years to come.”
