Honey Spirits Competition Returns

Registration is now open for the National Honey Board’s Honey Spirits Competition, with entries accepted through Friday, May 8. Hosted by the National Honey Board, this free competition celebrates the best spirits crafted with honey across the United States, spotlighting both innovation and the ingredient’s growing role in distilling.

This year’s competition features 12 categories:

● vodka

● gin

● bourbon/whiskey ● moonshine

● rum

● tequila/mezcal

● liqueurs/specialty spirits

● brandy

● spirits distilled from honey

● spirits distilled from honey — flavored

● packaged cocktails

● design/packaging

Entries must be commercially available in the United States, and distilleries may submit multiple entries per category, but each spirit may only be entered in one category. To register, visit http://honeyspiritscompetition.com/.

“We’re excited to see how the Honey Spirits Competition continues to evolve,” Catherine Barry, National Honey Board’s vice president of marketing, said. “From classic applications to more innovative expressions, honey is playing a bigger role in spirits than ever before, and we’re looking forward to seeing what rises to the top this year.”

The National Honey Board (NHB) is an industry-funded agriculture promotion group that works to educate consumers about the benefits and uses of honey and honey products through research, marketing and promotional programs. The Board’s work, funded by an assessment on domestic and imported honey, is designed to increase the awareness and usage of honey by consumers, the foodservice industry, and food manufacturers. The 10-member-Board, appointed by the U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, represents producers (beekeepers), packers, importers, and a marketing cooperative.
