Colorado Springs, Colorado-based 291 Colorado Whiskey is proud to announce the release of a pair of unique and limited edition whiskeys, now available for online orders, on Colorado Day—Aug. 1. This exceptional dual release marks a significant milestone for 291, as it is the first time the distillery has finished its renowned Colorado whiskey in barrels outside of their own—291’s bourbon and rye were finished in Kentucky barrels previously used to age heritage brands.
The 291 E Colorado Whiskey Batch 14 utilizes the distillery’s award winning rye mash bill, aged in our new deep charred oak barrels and finished in heritage Kentucky rye barrels for a combined age of over 4 years and bottled at a robust 67% alc. / 134.1 proof. It boasts a complex and full-bodied flavor profile offered as a small batch is limited to just 603 bottles.
The distillery’s flagship bourbon mash bill was aged in new deep charred oak barrels and finished in heritage Kentucky bourbon barrels for a combined age of over 4 years and bottled at barrel proof, 64.6% alc. / 129.2 proof. The 291 E Colorado Whiskey Batch 15, release is limited to just 590 bottles. These first of a kind barrel finishes for Distillery 291 are sure to inspire exploration by collectors and connoisseurs alike.
Michael Myers, founding distiller, expressed his excitement about the dual release: “Experimenting with finishing our Colorado whiskey in Kentucky barrels has allowed us to create something truly unique. We can’t wait for whiskey enthusiasts to experience this exceptional spirit.” Noting, the E14 & E15 are some of the oldest whiskeys Distillery 291 has ever released. “Early on in the finishing process we weren’t seeing much impact from the Kentucky barrel finishing, so we just kept aging… Now I’m finding a lot more KY on the nose, and it drinks sweeter and softer than our flagship bourbon and rye whiskeys.”
